Balancing It All

Last week I had the opportunity to attend a young professional’s round table seminar (thankful for a job that promotes professional development) and the topic could not have been more perfect after the month I just had. The title of this seminar was “Living the Dream on the Balance Beam of Life.” BOOM! Before it even started I was like did he write this just for me? I quickly grabbed a seat at the front of the room with pen and paper in hand ready to soak up all the speaker had to offer!

Girlfriends when I tell you his presentation was awesome from start to finish! By the time he was done I had 3 pages of notes and was somewhat sad that the presentation was over. I hadn’t even noticed that an hour and a half had passed, I was that in tune with what was being taught. To be honest I had to remind myself that I was not in church as I caught myself say “That’s good” out loud LOL!!! I can’t help it, I’m so churchy!!! Anyway this information was so good of course I had to share it with my girlfriends!

The presenter gave his Top Ten Tips to have a successful Work – Life Balance:

10. Set reminders of what’s important to you
– Have a plan for your day
9. Validate your own perceptions
– Ask others how you are doing
8. Don’t be afraid to say No!
– Avoid being put on the spot -> Rehearse your exit strategy
– Being everything to everybody is likely a recipe for failure
7. Leverage Your Autonomy
– If you are able, work your flex time; include your family in work functions
6. Improve your financial situation
– Reduce consumption, increase savings
– Less pressure on the job = more control of your life
5. Use technology to your advantage
– Schedule everything!!! -> Use Outlook to schedule set times for daily tasks
– Leave room for the unexpected
4. Hire a Butler!
– Focus on your strengths
– You can’t be good at everything -> identify areas where you aren’t strong and
hire someone else to do it
i.e. yard work
3. Establish Your Frequency!
– Urgent vs. Not Urgent
– Important vs. Not Important
2. Improve (or maintain an adequate) Fitness Level!
– Produces a positive, upward spiral
1. Identify Your Big Rocks!
– What’s most important to you?
– Do your actions show it?
– Practice of Mindfulness -> be where you are, stop thinking about other things,
focus on what you are doing at that moment ONLY

I hope these notes bless you all just as much as the presentation blessed me! I’m going to work on applying these tips to my life one step at a time. Prayerfully with these tips, a little due diligence on our part and the help of the Lord, we will all learn to start balancing it all!!

Peace and Blessings,

Picture7Happy Tuesday!!!!! After almost TWO weeks of straight rain, I can say that I’m glad it’s not raining!!! lol Anyway, I just wanted to give a quick update on getting healthier. Our body is our temple and we only get ONE! Like the other girls, I too am trying to preserve this body that I was given to last many many years. On this journey, we’re striving to make better eating decisions, consume more water, and incorporate more physical activity into our daily lives. I’m proud to say that after two months of eating differently, working out with a trainer 3 times/week, I’m down 11 lbs and 3 1/4 inches in the waist. Let’s celebrate the small victories in preparation for the grand prize!! No personal picture today, but keep a look out for the change…

#FMF: Praise

Praise – express warm approval or admiration of.

Your (current) position in life is not to be compared. You are not a mistake. Your marriage, relationship, job, where you live, etc. was and is all a part of the plan. Give unto God wholeheartedly at your (current) capacity out of love for Him not for advancement. Be who He’s called you to be and serve there, not at what looks good from the outside of someone else. Know why you were created, ask God to define your purpose- and live it out! Don’t worry about if you’re the only one not married (yet), with no children (yet), doesn’t own a house (yet), job doesn’t pay over $40K (yet) – its okay, that’s not your position YET! God will elevate you, when He knows you’re ready. When you’re not seeking Him solely for gain, but because you love, honor, and serve Him inspite of! And whether or not those things come to pass, you’ll continue to serve and praise Him because you Love Him. What if you viewed your YETs in life as BUTs? Because your future testimony will go something like this – I once wasn’t married BUT God, I once didn’t have children BUT God, I once didn’t own a house BUT God, my job didn’t pay over $40K BUT God…

Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His love endures forever. – 1 Chronicles 16:34

Praise Him in your current position and thank Him in advance for your blessings that are yet on their way! I’m just excited today to see what God’s got in store for me! I’m going to continue to give Him all the glory, all the honor, and all the praise!

I will proclaim the name of the Lord. Oh, praise the greatness of our God! – Deuteronomy 32:3

Give praise to the Lord, proclaim His name; make known among the nations what he has done. – 1 Chronicles 16:8
