An EXTRA-ordinary Love

As we all know a woman’s favorite holiday (well one of them) is just a few days away…you guessed it VALENTINE’S DAY!!! This is a day that we look forward to receive jewelry, chocolate candies, stuff animals, sweet kisses, flowers, balloons, an overabundance of love from our special someone. When I was single I absolutely hated this day. I remember in college spending the day cleaning my dorm room, blasting 112’s Part III album (one of my favs to date!!) crying because “I had no one to love me”. Or so I thought…

Looking back at the girl that I was back then, my heart aches for her and all the missed opportunities she had. What opportunities you ask? Well the Katesha back then was focused on finding love or as my man Jahiem would say “Looking for Love in all the WRONG places”. I was so zoned in on finding my “perfect guy” that I neglected THE Perfect Guy…my savior Jesus Christ. He was there with me all along…all those late nights of staying up crying wondering would I ever fall in love, would I get thru another broken heart; when He was right there beside me, with arms stretched wide waiting for me to fall in love with Him all over again. Does this story sound familiar? Okay so maybe it doesn’t speak to you directly, but maybe you know a girlfriend that has been in a similar if not the same situation.

There are so many examples of Jesus’ love for us, specifically in the Bible, but also in our everyday life. The best example of love that He showed was by giving up His life just for you and for me so that we would have a chance to live again. Wow all of that for just little ole me, let it sink in for a minute. How many times have we pushed Jesus aside, thinking oh I have time…I’ll get up and pray tomorrow, I promise…I’m going to stay up late tonight and get in my Word…Lord I’m going to reach out to the sister that I know needs help. How many times are we going to continue to ignore His love for us? We will stay up all night on the phone with our new boo, go the extra mile to show our husband that we really care, but yet will only give Jesus a Sunday morning praise, if even that. I know I’m laying it on you pretty heavy today, but as I type I too am convicted.

“Jesus said to him, You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment.” ~Matthew 22:37-38 NKJV

There you have it right there. No further explanation needed. So let’s make a girlfriend pack. On February 14, 2015 (and every day) I make a vow to have the BEST Valentine’s Day yet with the bridegroom (did you catch that?). I vow to not focus solely on my current relationship status, but to put forth greater effort to show my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ just how much I love Him. Is He not deserving? I mean He only grants us new grace and mercies every single morning. He blesses us with His extraordinary no better yet His EXTRA-ordinary love daily. The least we could do is whisper a simple “I love you” to Him in return.

So are you with me Girlfriend?

Wishing you a Happy Valentine’s Day!!! I love you and Jesus does too! 😀

Auntie Time!!!!

As you know, I do not have any children of my own at the moment, but when I get the opportunity, I borrow a few from time to time lol. And because I love kids so much, I had the pleasure of spending some time this weekend with some awesome little ones (15 months, 23 months, and 5 yrs). We had a nice sleepover… nothing like a good ol’ slap in the face from a sleeping toddler or saving a 5 yr old from making a head dive off the side of the bed lol. The fun began dark and early Saturday morning at 5:45am!!!!!!! By 6:30am everyone was up. We ate waffles and grits for breakfast. They ran up and down the hallway for a few hours, and then it was NAP TIME!!!! I was able to get all fresh and rejuvenated and prepared for the afternoon. We had lunch at Noodles and Co. and shopping to make special treats. More naps and burning energy: chasing the dogs and riding them like horses… I had time to make treats. Cake pops here we come! It was such an easy recipe. I think they came out pretty nice. It was a simple and fun hands-on project to do with the kids. I got the recipe/idea from MyLittleCupcakePop on YouTube. It was a great no bake option (although a little sweet for me). We used purple candy melts (my fav color) and some simple sprinkles for decoration. You’ll have to give me your thoughts on what they look like. cake pop 2.10.15What a great weekend. I’m sure I’ll have many more great AUNTIE ventures to share

The Greatest Gift

1 Corinthians 13 NKJV

Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal. 2 And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. 3 And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned,[a] but have not love, it profits me nothing.

4 Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; 5 does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; 6 does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; 7 bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

8 Love never fails. But whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away. 9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part. 10 But when that which is perfect has come, then that which is in part will be done away.

11 When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things. 12 For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known.

13 And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.

Life with Boys!

So what’s life like with boys? three of them to be exact… BUSY! Never a dull moment!!

I’m the mother of three very special young men. (alil background first) I had the pleasure of meeting my hubs almost six years ago and I guess you could call it love at first sight. We met online, had a meet up a few days later, went out on an official date later the next week and the rest is history! On August 7, 2010 I became a wife and insta-mom of two little boys. Then December 16, 2011 (as luck would have it) our family grew by one more BOY!

They are each very unique and similar all at the same time. The oldest is in the fourth grade- he plays baseball, football, and basketball. The middle one is in the first grade- he plays basketball and is wanting to now also play football. The youngest is in K-3 daycare class and he is a lover of ALL sports. But if I had to pick a favorite for him I would say… basketball! He is also our “little drummer” following in the footsteps of his dad! So as you can imagine given their current grade levels and activity schedules we’re certainly a busy family! Is anyone else tired yet?

So what do I find challenging? Well this weekend will present its challenges as both of the older boys have basketball games scheduled at the same time at different locations! So unfortunately, we will be a family divided- myself and the baby boy will be attending the middle son’s game, while the hubs will be with our oldest at his game! I do find it sometimes challenging to shop for them because the selections can be “too basic.” Or just because they are boys does not mean they only want to wear stripes, trucks, cars, and dinosaurs on their clothes. I also find it alil annoying when we go places and there are many look-a-likes around! I do dare to shop for them online to find more of a variety than what Target and Crazy 8 offers, but there are times when you just need the convenience of a local store.

(more challenges) Now don’t get me wrong, I enjoy my reigning title as The Queen but sometimes I dream of the moments I could have with a little girl of my own!  Doing her hair, painting our nails, playing baby dolls and doll house… picking out the cutest outfits with all the little accessories! Or just having an excuse to watch the movie Frozen!! No I  have not seen it yet…have heard great things about it-but the boys have not even mentioned the word Frozen in our house!!

What do I consider most rewarding? The most rewarding part of it all for me… is simply being a MOM! I consider it an honor and a privilege to be a mother. After experiencing a miscarriage and believing that I would not have children of my own (the devil is a lie!) I had a different perceptive on life. I learned how to really and truly trust in God, stand on His promises, and I wholeheartedly believed in the power of prayer. In only six short months (that seemed like FOREVER to me and the hubs) we were pregnant and I had a successful full-term pregnancy! Won’t He do it!!!! Do I have any witnesses???

And so yes- MY life with boys is fun, exciting, and always entertaining! I wouldn’t trade them for nothing!!

So how’s your life with boys? What would you consider challenging about it? What do you consider most rewarding?

“My girlfriends there thru thick and thin, my girlfriends there for anything, my girlfriends…”

We all remember the hit series Girlfriends right? Let me tell ya’ll I LOVED THAT SHOW!! (And still do =D I keep it on my You Tube playlist) Watching the stories of the 4 main characters on our screens for so many years kinda felt like a since of home. Now neither I nor my girlfriends’ story lines are quite as complex as that of those characters, but we are still quite unique in our own sense of the word.

Let me school on a little history lesson real quick…So our story dates back to 1997 (okay I’m telling our age lol) where our sister circle first began. I remember being nervous about starting high school and meeting new friends until I walked into my 9th grade English class. This is where I met Tamara. We quickly became close and felt like we were “twins” separated at birth lol. Moving this story right along, Tamara knew Erin from middle school, but I didn’t meet her until 10th grade in our English class. Erin and I quickly developed a bond, just as Tamara and I. Tamara met Tasha thru their church youth group but Tamara, Tasha and Erin all attended college together (is your head spinning yet) which is where I met and developed a friendship with Tasha. Whew okay so although we did not meet each other at the same time, God had a divine plan for our paths to cross and ultimately lead to a lifetime of sisterhood.

Growing up my Mama always told me that as I got older the Lord would reveal my “true friends”. Well at the time I thought that I had it all figured out with my many different pockets of friends. (Come on I know I’m not the only one that didn’t always listen to her mother.) I felt like everyone in my circle at the time was #TeamKT; however the lie detector test proved, “That was a LIE”.  I have shared some of my most memorable, exciting, darkest, lowest moments with this bunch. As we get older and our lives take different turns, we are not always able to get up like we used to and that’s okay. When you have a true friendship, better yet a covenant relationship, no matter how long we’ve been apart, when we come back together it’s like we never missed a beat. I would have to agree with my Mama and say that yes the Lord has revealed that this crew is with me no matter what. (And I with them =D)

So the question comes to mind, what do you consider to be the definition or attributes of a true girlfriend? While you think, I will give you mine…

  • A confidant that I can trust with any and everything, knowing that she will only take it to our Heavenly Father in prayer.
  • Someone I can go to for advice, correction, a listening ear when I need to vent without any interruptions, a shoulder to cry on
  • A lady that will make my problems hers and will not only help work through them but also assist in coming up with a solution (Even if she helped cause some lol J)
  • Ultimately someone that has touched my heart, pushed me towards greatness and encourages me to reach my highest potential

Tamara, Erin, Tasha…. My girlfriends, there thru thick and thin; My girlfriends, there thru anything, my girlfriends….

“A man who has friends must himself be friendly, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.”
~Proverbs 18:24
