Never Knew A Love Like This

Happy Friday Girlfriends! As we embark upon the Valentine’s holiday, I wanted to talk just a moment about love. Wait! don’t exit the page, this is not a sappy love story about me and my boo. This is about a SISTERHOOD kind of LOVE! You still here? Okay good —

I’m sure some of you are familiar with the bible story of Ruth and Naomi…. Right? Maybe so? Well here is a brief refresher – Ruth was married to one of Naomi’s sons. Naomi was preceded in death first by her husband and then later by her two sons. Naomi and her two daughter-in-laws (Orpah & Ruth) decided to travel to Bethlehem from Moab. Along this journey, Naomi tells Orpah & Ruth that they must return back to their mother’s houses in Moab. Initially both of them explained to Naomi that she must go with them, but she refused. Orpah returned to Moab, but Ruth just couldn’t leave Naomi. Ruth understood the state Naomi was in, she was destitute and grieving the loss of her family during a famine. Ruth & Naomi continued to Bethlehem and Ruth would gather corn dropped by the workers in the fields for food.

Now, I’m stopping the story here because this should be all the precursor I need to express my point of sisterhood love. We all need to have a “Ruth spirit” – she understood the real needs of Naomi and decided she would help her even though it would be very hard and inconvenient. All of us at some point may experience a “Naomi moment” – where we’re truly in need of someone else’s help but don’t want to disturb their daily life dynamic or inconvenience them with our own personal issues/problems. Nevertheless, what I do know is that God’s Word is true and everything written in the Bible is for us to learn and abide by. The love presented by Ruth unto Naomi is not written for us to just give praise to Ruth, it is to show us how we are to love one to another.

So ladies when you know of a sister that’s going through a “Naomi moment” please have a “Ruth spirit” – one in which they can’t resist, one in which they know is genuine, one in which they don’t feel like charity, one in which they truly feel the LOVE OF GOD through you!

Please remember these Naomi’s on Valentine’s Day too, send them encouragement and love, because we never know when we could fall victim of a “Naomi moment.”

May the Lord repay you for your kindness, and may your reward be full from the Lord, the God of Israel, under whose wings you have come to take refuge.~ Ruth 2:12 (AMP)

Have a wonderful weekend!

My Spa Experience

This past weekend was absolutely WONDERFUL!! It was just what the doctor ordered and then some! My hubby surprised me with a much needed spa experience for just me and him; that’s right ladies a couples massage!!!

Now I’ve had a massage before, but this experience was much different. Well for (1) it was with my love and (2) it was actually at a spa. Previously I’ve had one done at a massage therapist’s office but never at a spa! I’m talking robes, special slippers, relaxing music, fountains and chocolate fondue! We were both super excited to spend intimate time with one another because honestly we’ve failed recently in the dating category. It’s SO easy to get tied up in the duties of life and forget to take time out for just each other. No mommy, no daddy, just husband and wife! Can I go back now? Lol

During my hot stone massage (I highly recommend you get one if you’ve never had one!), I was SUPER relaxed almost to the point of falling asleep, but I fought those droopy eyes and took the time to reflect and pray. In that moment I was so happy and so in love and thanked the Lord for sending this guy my way. Not only did I show gratitude for my own relationship, but I also spent time praying for my sisters and family members that (1) they would be blessed to be found by their mate or (2) that their relationship would be strengthened or (3) that broken hearts would be mended and that they too could experience this thing called love. God did not create man to be alone and I am just crazy enough to believe that these desires will be met by God in His timing.

So today in closing, I want to leave you with this bit of encouragement. While going through life and when you have those moments of gratitude for the blessings in your personal life, don’t keep them all to yourself. Pray for that sister who may not have the same in that (1) she will find peace in her current situation (2) be patient enough to wait on the Lord and (3) that the desires of her heart will be granted if within the Lord’s will. Paying it forward doesn’t always have to involve monetary gifts; the spiritual seeds sown and invested in someone’s life will render so much more.

Peace & Blessings,

Patient love, kind love, sweet love, kind love
Love a word that comes and goes
But few people really know what it means to really love somebody
Love though the tears may fade away
I’m so glad your love will stay
’cause I love you and you show me
Jesus what it really means to love

The nights that I cry you love me
When I should have died you love me
I’ll never know why you love me
Its a mystery to me now I’m glad that I can see Jesus

When all hope was gone you love me
You gave me a song that you love me
Now I can go on ’cause you love me
Its a mystery to me now I’m glad that I can see Jesus

What it really means
To love

God’s love for us is the greatest Love of all!

Happy (early) Valentine’s Day from your GIRLFRIENDS!

The Greatest Love of All

Happy Wednesday Ladies! As we all know this Sunday is Valentine’s Day, a day that is set aside to celebrate all things love and those that are closest to your heart. On this day women look forward to receiving candy, flowers, jewelry and cute stuffed animals from the man that they love. Most stores are covered in pink and red, tv commercials hint around to buying the perfect gift, and there we sit in anticipation of this great day.

Yeah this may be true for some, however it is not the case for all. I remember a time when I hated the thought of Valentine’s Day, when I would quote “Love is for Suckas” and spend the day drowning my sorrows in sad songs, junk food and excessive cleaning. I recently read a devotion from Proverbs 31 Ministries titled “When You Hate Valentine’s Day” which brought my mind back to the those “sad’ days where I felt like I would never find the love that I so desired. If I would have only read this devotion all those years ago and realized who my true first love was and just how much HE loved me instead of focusing on my pain then I would have understood further that it was all working for my good. There was a reason HE allowed that heartache in my life, HE was directing my attention back to HIM and the greatest love that I would ever experience…the love of JESUS CHRIST!

So today I want to leave you with that same message. If you are feeling like I or the author in the devotion was about Valentine’s Day…don’t. You may not see it or feel it today but there is a reason for your pain. Take your focus off of it and put it back on CHRIST who is standing before you with the best gift you could ever receive…HIS undying love, which girlfriends is the greatest gift of all…

Peace & Blessings,

#TBT Sweat & Roses

It was Valentines day weekend and the “Gems” were away for the weekend with their Papa, His father and I was heading to Wilmington to see Him. Once I arrived, He and I went out to Olive Garden early to beat the crowd. We sat down and I promise you 10 minutes had gone by, before anyone even took our drink order, initially we hadn’t noticed because we were talking and had called to check on the “Gems”. We look around and there was a waitress giving her life story right behind us and we still have no drinks. I usually would have responded in a rather negative manner, but this time I was calm. Finally, someone came for our drink order and it was not the waitress that was telling her life story, good thing because I know I would have gone in on her, I’m just saying. This waitress apologized for the wait and gave us the excuse about it being shift change and unassigned tables…..blah…blah…blah. As we had movie tickets right after we were eager to go ahead and place our order too. I will say the waitress was awesome, drinks were filled at all times, bread and salad was flowing the night was getting better by the minute (I’m a foodie). It was about time for us to head across town to catch “Fifty Shades of Grey”….yes I read the book, all three, yes I enjoyed every last page, my life, my choice!! lol. With that being said we finished dessert, asked for the check and the waitress brings back salad, bread and soup to go, but no check. So we ask again, pressed for time at this point and she asks if the manager had been by and he hadn’t yet, she goes to get him. He approaches the table, apologizes for the delay in service earlier and says “your meal tonight is on us” talking bout somebody happy, thank ya Lord!

The bright sun rays poked through the blinds on a too early to be awake yet
with NO kids kind of morning. My nose tells me He’s making breakfast I am scanning Netflix taking advantage of the opportunity to watch something other than cartoons. He opens the door, “Hey….don’t come out ok?” I laugh, “ahh…ok” and go back to surfing Netflix, I swear sometimes you spend more time surfing than watching movies up there. So I am totally relaxing when there’s another knock at the door. “Yes……”, “Hey…..dont come out ok?” he must be up to something out there. By the time the last knock came, I was pretty much ready to eat, see this elaborate breakfast he seems to be so excited about. He waits for me at the thresh of the door and I begin to follow Him into the kitchen and I take notice of red rose petals tossed about on the floor leading me somewhere, I attempt to level my head, but my big ol’ kool-aid smile makes it difficult, lol. I take notice of an IPad, Phone and computer “watching” my every move spread about throughout the space, is this live? am I being recorded? The trail of roses leads me to a TV tray! bahahaha, wait now……it had a dozen of roses on it, a card and a heart shaped box. Theres a familiar voice I hear in the background its Sisqo (what?!!! did he really make a come back?) LIPS song playing in the background. He says open the card, I look at Him, reach over and pick up the red envelope. The cover say’s “To My WIFE” I read on as if I didn’t notice that, but anyone who really knows me, knows I pay attention to details, I definitely saw that (grinning). I finished reading the card and at the bottom he wrote “P.S life is like a box of chocolate, you never know what you’re going to get” I look back at Him and he says “open the box”, the heart shaped box filled with chocolate I’m sure. I say, “but I don’t want chocolate this early followed by a giggle. He says just open it, so I look towards the TV tray and grabbed the box, by the time I look back at Him, he is sweating………profusely…..”why are you sweating so hard” I open the box and in the very center of the heart there’s a chocolate missing and a gorgeous ring in its place. I’m speechless at this point, He grabs a decorative pillow from off the couch and throws it down on the floor and begins to kneel one knee down on it. I find myself being a tad bit distracted, I know
you’re probably thinking how?….why? but I am still stuck on the sweat that is way past beads, and the desktop screen that I seem to be on, oh and don’t forget the pillow that was necessary before He got down on one knee, lol the very things I love so much. I found myself to be nervous, an uncontrollable laughter fell upon me. He patiently waits for my hands to be released as they  barricaded my face filled with laughter. He takes my left hand and ask me to marry Him. I think we know what my answer was……….so ladies join the journey with me of this particular chapter in my life, I am Engaged. So what happens next?…….

Year One…

Year one will be all over the place…various emotions and feelings to happy memories and laughing on the inside. Come along with me on my journey of the first year as a widow…

As another “holiday” comes and goes, it continues to remind me of what and who I don’t have anymore. From the beginning when you pray for a mate and let God do the rest, when it’s your time according to His plan, the love and relationship comes naturally. I’ve never said that it was always easy, but it was always worth it. If you are blessed with another opportunity to say I love you and to wake up next to your chosen mate, be honored and grateful. As I go on day to day, I pray that it’ll get easier. I know God will send another my way; but until then, Happy Valentine’s Day!

So tomorrow is Valentine’s Day! The one day a year that for some they express an exuberant abundance of love and affection towards others because well its Valentine’s Day lol. Since being married I have learned what it means to love someone each and every day. That no matter the struggles or trials of the day at the end of it all there is still LOVE. Love is more than candies, roses, balloons, and cards. Love is a feeling, an emotion, those little butterflies you get in your stomach. That is in my opinion how love should make you feel. Anybody know what I am talking about? So not only is tomorrow Valentine’s Day but Tuesday is the hubs BIRTHDAY! So he’s in for a double-dose of loving ;D. This weekend myself and the hubs will be doing a little special celebrating at a Neo-Soul concert. It is his favorite artist so I had to make sure to jump on those tickets when I saw that she was coming!

Today is also a very special day for a young couple I know who will be getting married this afternoon. I decided to send them a poem I found by Terah Cox titled “An Uncommon Love.” It reads…

May you have the love
only two can know
May you go where only
two as one may go
May the sun rise and set
in your bonded hearts
and the moon never find you
too long apart
May you cherish each other’s
dreams as your own
and turn all stumbling blocks
into stepping stones
May you brave life’s mountains
and miles together
May there be no storm
your love cannot weather
May you always be lovers
and allies and friends
May your souls’ conversation
never end
May you capture on earth
what’s in heaven above
May your hearts know the rapture
of an uncommon love.

Wishing them an eternity of love and happiness!

So Girlfriend what is LOVE to you? How will you celebrate your Valentine this year?

Wishing each of you a WONDERFUL VALENTINE’S DAY!

An EXTRA-ordinary Love

As we all know a woman’s favorite holiday (well one of them) is just a few days away…you guessed it VALENTINE’S DAY!!! This is a day that we look forward to receive jewelry, chocolate candies, stuff animals, sweet kisses, flowers, balloons, an overabundance of love from our special someone. When I was single I absolutely hated this day. I remember in college spending the day cleaning my dorm room, blasting 112’s Part III album (one of my favs to date!!) crying because “I had no one to love me”. Or so I thought…

Looking back at the girl that I was back then, my heart aches for her and all the missed opportunities she had. What opportunities you ask? Well the Katesha back then was focused on finding love or as my man Jahiem would say “Looking for Love in all the WRONG places”. I was so zoned in on finding my “perfect guy” that I neglected THE Perfect Guy…my savior Jesus Christ. He was there with me all along…all those late nights of staying up crying wondering would I ever fall in love, would I get thru another broken heart; when He was right there beside me, with arms stretched wide waiting for me to fall in love with Him all over again. Does this story sound familiar? Okay so maybe it doesn’t speak to you directly, but maybe you know a girlfriend that has been in a similar if not the same situation.

There are so many examples of Jesus’ love for us, specifically in the Bible, but also in our everyday life. The best example of love that He showed was by giving up His life just for you and for me so that we would have a chance to live again. Wow all of that for just little ole me, let it sink in for a minute. How many times have we pushed Jesus aside, thinking oh I have time…I’ll get up and pray tomorrow, I promise…I’m going to stay up late tonight and get in my Word…Lord I’m going to reach out to the sister that I know needs help. How many times are we going to continue to ignore His love for us? We will stay up all night on the phone with our new boo, go the extra mile to show our husband that we really care, but yet will only give Jesus a Sunday morning praise, if even that. I know I’m laying it on you pretty heavy today, but as I type I too am convicted.

“Jesus said to him, You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment.” ~Matthew 22:37-38 NKJV

There you have it right there. No further explanation needed. So let’s make a girlfriend pack. On February 14, 2015 (and every day) I make a vow to have the BEST Valentine’s Day yet with the bridegroom (did you catch that?). I vow to not focus solely on my current relationship status, but to put forth greater effort to show my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ just how much I love Him. Is He not deserving? I mean He only grants us new grace and mercies every single morning. He blesses us with His extraordinary no better yet His EXTRA-ordinary love daily. The least we could do is whisper a simple “I love you” to Him in return.

So are you with me Girlfriend?

Wishing you a Happy Valentine’s Day!!! I love you and Jesus does too! 😀
